PROBLEM

Helping Creators Focus on What Matters

Creators struggle to optimize their content because they lack time, guidance, and clarity on what needs improvement versus what’s already working well.

SOLUTION

Intuitive Dashboard Built on Proven Patterns

When designing the dashboard, I adopted existing patterns in AI to ensure user familiarity and ease of use. By consolidating input and outcomes in the main window and minimizing scrolling, I aimed for a data-centric design that keeps all key information upfront, contrasting with competitors' extensive scrolling dashboards.

CONTEXT

For Who and Why?

Upview, an early-stage startup, tasked me to design the full end-to-end product for a video optimization tool for YouTube content creators.

According to stakeholders, this tool can boost visibility and engagement, and save over 70% of time preparing video data.

I collaborated with Bhavik (CEO/Dev), Jenil (CTO/Dev), Aishwarya (Backend), and Deepanshu (Frontend), to create a tool separate from their current dashboard to validate results independently.

CHALLENGE

Navigating Simplicity, Trust, and Consistency

  1. Balancing Simplicity with Depth
One of the main challenges is creating a dashboard that remains intuitive and approachable for creators with limited time and technical knowledge, while still providing in-depth insights to support meaningful content improvements.

  2. Building Trust through Transparency
For creators to feel confident in optimizing their content, the dashboard needs to clearly show how suggested improvements impact performance. Providing evidence and understandable explanations is essential to establish trust and encourage usage.

RESEARCH

User Insights from a Pre-Existing Survey

The company has conducted a Likert-scale survey on 35 content creators. I analyzed the results to uncover key insights on what the content creators might want from this new tool.

Example Questions from the Survey:

ex. How important is it to you to have easy-to-understand insights from your video analytics?

ex. How likely are you to use a tool that predicts the success or failure rate of a video idea?

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

Market Gaps in Clarity and Customization

To understand how other companies approached similar features, I analyzed their designs using Neilsen Norman Group's Usability Heuristics and identified a common lack of clarity, customization options, and had too much scrolling and text.

As a result, I prioritized a non-scrolling dashboard and keyword control to personalize the generated outputs.

SUMMARY OF INSIGHTS

Key Insights from Research

  1. Users want some kind of control on results.

  2. Competitors are cluttered with text and have too much scrolling.

  3. Users felt like they didn’t have enough time and were confused.

  4. 59.3% of users don’t use Generative AI tools.

FINAL DESIGN

Onboarding

Since this was an end-to-end process, stakeholders wanted to include the sign-up process and emails.

Setup and Dashboard

Focused on how the user would input multiple videos and collapsible modules on the dashboard for easier navigation and clarity.

EDGE CASES

Improving Trust with User Control & Transparency

Using a viral score that gives a grade for the old & new video, will help the user feel more confident that the tool made a change. The score will grade the title, keywords, tags, and description.

When inputting video URLs, the user can influence the output by adding keywords to refine the results.

BUSINESS IMPACT

Stakeholder Feedback

100% of the team, including the CEO, CTO, and developers believed the product was successful and deemed it ready for implementation.

NEXT STEPS

Design is Never Done

  1. Scaling for Larger Video Libraries
To support creators managing extensive content, optimizing the dashboard for speed and usability with large video libraries is essential. I would explore filtering, sorting, and batch-editing capabilities.

  2. User Testing and Feedback
Extensive user testing will validate the design’s usability and reveal areas for improvement. Iterating based on real feedback ensures the dashboard remains intuitive and impactful.

  3. Transitioning to Upview
Integrating the dashboard into the Upview ecosystem will provide creators with a seamless, all-in-one platform for content management and performance tracking.

LEARNINGS

Personal Takeaways

  1. Dealing with stakeholder feedback and balancing the needs between the business and user.

  2. Navigating the diverse components within a web dashboard's flow, from pricing and emails to branding and onboarding.
